Three Putnam County Schools and a Central Office program have each received a $1,000 grant from Utrust in recognition of Dawn Fry, a Putnam County School Board member, for her service on the Utrust Board of Trustees.

·      Prescott Middle School received $1,000 to support their recording studio.

·      Cookeville High School received to support its Independence Program headed by Vanessa Johnson.

·      Cane Creek Elementary School received $1,000 to support its Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day.

·      The Putnam County Central Office received $1,000 to support the Health Services Program headed by Melanie Bussell.

The Utrust Trustee Choice grant provides for Fry to choose up to $4,000 in projects that she wishes to fund. She chose Prescott Middle School because of the unique experience it provides for students to record and broadcast on their own station in cooperation with a local radio station. Independence School was selected because of the opportunity it offers students to further their development after high school.  After experiencing a tough couple of years with losses of both staff and students, Cane Creek Elementary was chosen so they could show appreciation to their staff in a special way.  The Health Services Program of Putnam County Schools provides much needed clothes and other items to students across the county.

Fry said, “I’m pleased to be in a position to help with these projects. It brings me great joy to help our schools be better places for children to learn.  That’s why I’m on the school board.  I also love serving on the Utrust Board of Trustees. They do so many things to help the schools and students they serve. I appreciate them giving me the opportunity to make these grants to programs that are dear to my heart.”

Putnam County Superintendent, Corby King said, “We are grateful to Utrust and to Dr. Dawn Fry for providing these much-needed funds for programs in our school district.  We welcome every opportunity to strengthen programs that enhance opportunities available to our students. We have seen first-hand Dr. Fry’s leadership in making schools better places to work and learn. These grants move us in that direction.”

Utrust Administrator, Dr. Dan Tollett said, “Dawn Fry has been a tremendous member of the Utrust Board for five years. She is one of two Middle Tennessee representatives that serve on the Utrust Board.  She has helped to implement and oversee a number of excellent programs, including the mini-grant program which has provided a million dollars to Tennessee schools in each of the last four years. We are delighted to be able to fund these grants as a token of our appreciation for her service”.
