They're going to stop ActivInspire?

ActivInspire, the software that many of our teachers use with their interactive whiteboards, needs Adobe Flash player to work (see the system requirements; currently it needs at least Adobe Flash 17).

In 2017, Adobe announced "we remain committed to supporting Flash through 2020". They announced no month nor day, just 2020.

Adobe Flash has had vulnerabilities that programmers with bad intentions have exploited to cause data to be shared without the user's knowledge, malware and viruses to be installed, and other undesirable actions. The software updates to flash plug and prevent these exploits. If it's no longer updated, it will likely be exploited.

The term EOL refers to End of Life. EOL means no more updates for your OS (Operating System, like MacOS, Windows, Linux, Google Chrome, etc.)

Adobe's announcement stated, "Adobe will continue to support Flash on a number of major OSes and browsers that currently support Flash content through the planned EOL. This will include issuing regular security patches, maintaining OS and browser compatibility and adding features and capabilities as needed. We remain fully committed to working with partners, including Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Mozilla to maintain the security and compatibility of Flash content."

If you were Microsoft or you were Apple, and you knew this was going to happen, wouldn't you want to protect people from being exploited? Wouldn't you want to shut down software that can be exploited? Computer companies do this through a software patch often called a security update. To protect users, they will most likely send out a security update to disable Flash. When? Sometime after Adobe stops updating Flash.

You need security updates to keep your computer safe.

If Flash is disabled, and ActivInspire needs Flash to load to work on your computer, you will need to use something else that can run without Flash. You could use Microsoft Powerpoint, but you cannot import a flipchart into Powerpoint.

The same people who make ActivInspire make Classflow. Classflow does not use Flash player. Classflow can import your flipcharts, so that you do not have to start over from scratch.

If you have a Promethean Planet username and password, you can use that to log into Classflow. If not, you can create a free teacher account.

You can import your flipcharts from ActivInspire into Classflow by clicking the resources button, clicking the new button and then clicking on File Upload.

Click resources, then click the New button, then click on File Upload
