School Status: Updated 4/15/2020

Today Governor Lee recommended that school buildings remain closed through the end of the scheduled school year. The Putnam County School System will follow this recommendation. In Putnam County, we are fortunate to be able to offer our students continued learning opportunities through our PCSS Remote Learning Plan.

While our buildings will remain closed, remote learning will continue with our teachers interacting with students and continuing to provide opportunities for ongoing learning. Our plan is to continue this through Friday, May 15. During the week of May 18th - 22nd, we will arrange for students to return devices and mobile hotspots that were borrowed from school sites.

Expectations for students concerning learning opportunities and grading will vary depending on the students’ grade level and course assignments. Clear expectations for grades and new learning will be developed by grade-level supervisors and principals. Expectations will be communicated to students and families through individual teachers no later than Monday, April 20. Our intent will be to provide students opportunities to continue learning and receive feedback from teachers for their work while preparing them to move forward to the next grade level or course.

We will be gathering input and feedback from our Class of 2020 seniors and their parents via a survey. This survey will be sent to your PCSS student email address and the parent School Messenger email address we have on file. While senior class activities will need to be postponed, we do not intend to cancel any senior class activities such as graduation and prom.

School nutrition services will continue as scheduled through Wednesday, May 20. Information on the summer feeding program and locations will be provided before the end date of school. The anticipated launch date for summer feeding will be Monday, June 1, 2020.

Dates will be arranged by individual schools between now and May 22 for students to come to buildings to pick up any personal items in classrooms or lockers, as well as pick up pictures and yearbooks.

Report cards will be sent via email on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

We will share information on summer school programs for elementary, middle, and high school as soon as it is available.

School Status: Updated 3/24/2020

In light of the recommendations released this afternoon by Governor Bill Lee, the Putnam County School System will remain closed through Friday, April 24, 2020. All Putnam County School System facilities and activities will remain closed to non-school system employees for the duration of this closing. Putnam County School System teachers will begin implementing the PCSS Remote Learning Plan for students next Wednesday, April 1, 2020. School personnel will be contacting families this week to identify student needs for the Remote Learning Plan so that we may best serve our families during this time. Putnam County School Nutrition and Transportation employees will continue to serve meals according to our posted plan throughout this extended closure. This is an unprecedented time in our community and across our nation. Our intent during this closure is to continue supporting families. This situation is not ideal for students, parents, or teachers. We will learn and support each other through this process. We will ask our teachers to be available and be engaged with our students. In like manner, we ask that our students also be engaged in this process to the extent possible.

MONDAY, MARCH 16, 2020 - 5:00 P.M.

In light of the Governor's announcement this morning, PCSS schools and all activities will be canceled through at least March 31 effective immediately. This includes all athletic contests, extra-curricular activities, contracts with groups using our buildings, etc.

LEAPS and SAC services will be closed after Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

The days we miss due to this closure will not have to be made up.  We will request a waiver from the TN Department of Education for the days missed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

School Nutrition will begin providing meals on Monday, March 23, 2020 for students who are 18 years of age and younger.  Details will be shared via email and PCSS website and social media by Sunday evening, March 22, 2020.

We do not currently have any information regarding the upcoming TNReady state testing but we will provide updates as we receive them. We are in contact with the TN Dept of Education and ACT regarding rescheduling the ACT on March 31, 2020 for a later date.  Updates will be shared when available.

March 23 - March 31, will be an extended spring break for students. During this time, PCSS faculty and staff will be working to prepare for continuity of services should the closure be extended beyond March 31. We appreciate your patience as we work out the logistics. We will communicate decisions as quickly and clearly as possible. This is completely new territory for all public school systems, but we will work through it together.
