PCSS Earns Highest Possible Growth Score
PUTNAM COUNTY, TENN. – The Putnam County School System continues to celebrate academic achievement and growth throughout the 2024 – 2025 school year! According to the most recent data released by the Tennessee Department of Education, Putnam County Schools earned the highest possible growth score of Level 5.
“I continue to be inspired by the performance of each of our schools and their commitment to student success,” said PCSS Superintendent Corby King. “We continue to see gains in both academic achievement and growth.”
This is the second year in a row that PCSS has scored a Level 5.
“This would not be possible without the dedication of our students, teachers, support staff, and administrators,” said King. “Our success would not be possible without the support of our parents, community stakeholders, and Board of Education.”
Each year, the TNDOE releases student growth data based on their most recent performance on the TCAP State assessments given in the Spring. Growth data is calculated through the Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS).
The Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS) measures student growth year over year, regardless of whether the student is proficient on the state assessment. In calculating a TVAAS score, a student’s performance is compared to those of their peers who have performed similarly on past assessments.
TVAAS generates scores for teachers, students, individual schools, and the district on a scale from 1 (significantly less growth than expected) to 5 (substantially more growth than expected).
Putnam County Schools saw improvements in science “system-wide growth,” moving from a Level 3 to a Level 4 and maintaining a combined literacy/numeracy growth score of Level 5. Putnam County Schools maintains its composite growth score of Level 5.
Prescott Elementary School, Algood Middle School, Park View Elementary School, Cookeville High School, and Burks Elementary all demonstrated exceptional academic growth with a composite score of Level 5 and a combined literacy/numeracy growth score of Level 5.
“This is a level we strive to maintain,” said King. “We will continue our unwavering dedication to see our students succeed.”
