Play A Role In Your Child's Success In School.

Family Engagement is a full, equal, and equitable partnership among families, educators and community partners to promote children's learning and development from birth through college and career. It is under Title I funding.

According to the Tennessee Department of Education, over 40 years of research is clear when schools, families, and communities work together to support learning, regardless of income or background, the study shows:

earn better grades and test scores

enroll in higher-level courses and programs

are more likely to be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits

have better school attendance

show improved behavior and have better social skills graduate and go on to postsecondary education.

Ways to stay involved in your child's education
- Keep in touch with your child's teacher (apps, email, newsletters)
- Have high educational expectations
- Attend school meetings, functions, and events
- Seek out information
- Be an active part of decision-making committees
- Take the yearly PCSS Family Engagement Survey
- Make school attendance important - Can't stress this enough!
- Visit your school's website often
- Participate in parent workshops
- Encourage learning at home (homework, reading, etc.)
- Participate in extracurricular activities
- Join the school's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), if applicable
- Ask your child's teacher how you can help
You can also review your school's Family Engagement Plan! Each school has one and is required to hold three events/meetings a year!
How can I help my child at home?
- Praise and encourage your child often, they need to hear it!
- Engage in conversation daily, "What did you learn today?"
- Celebrate the wins and work with them on areas for improvement
- Make sure children are fed a healthy breakfast
- Don't forget sleep! Make sure they are well rested
- Children like routines. Create them for homework, bedtime, etc.
- Monitor and limit the amount of TV and/or video games your child watches or plays
