    History

In the fall of 1972, funding was approved to build a new elementary school in the northeast section of Cookeville, Tennessee. This construction project led to the creation of Northeast Elementary School. Located in Putnam County, Tennessee, at 575 Old Kentucky Road, the school was opened in 1975 and originally housed Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. Because of rapid population growth in the area, Northeast was built to help with the overcrowding at Capshaw Elementary School and Jere Whitson Elementary School. At the height of its utilization, Northeast Elementary housed its own students plus all the Kindergarten classes from Capshaw Elementary and one Kindergarten section from Parkview Elementary. The peak enrollment at Northeast was 755 students during the 1995-96 school year. Currently, Northeast Elementary School has pre-K through Fourth Grade and a before-and after-school program (SAC). The enrollment for the 2005-2006 school year was 525 students with a full-time faculty of 30.
