Parents and Community members frequently ask about our Farm to School Program. We have several opportunities throughout the school year to purchase local food. We are funded by the USDA, and strongly encouraged to purchase local foods when possible.
When possible we work with local farmers to make small purchases of seasonal produce including: watermelon, strawberries, broccoli, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, plums, peaches, and apples. Our large produce distributor sends us a list monthly of the produce which is grown locally and can be made available to you upon request. September is Farm to School Month.
We wish to continue expanding our Farm to School Program to more farms and more product variety and availability. If you are a local farmer interested in our program, please contact the School Nutrition Team at (931) 528-1847, for participation requirements and further information.
