Dr. Diana Wood Named Tennessee Supervisor of the Year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Putnam County School System (PCSS) is proud to announce that Dr. Diana Wood has been named the 2025–2026 Tennessee Supervisor of the Year by the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE). The honor was presented Friday evening at the annual Excellence in Education celebration held at the Noah Liff Opera Center in Nashville.
Dr. Wood, who serves as the PreK–4 Instructional Supervisor for PCSS, was first selected as the district’s Supervisor of the Year by school principals—an achievement that positioned her for regional and statewide consideration. With this recognition, she becomes the first supervisor in Putnam County to earn the prestigious statewide honor.
“I am excited that with this recognition, the wonderful work happening in Putnam County can be highlighted,” said Wood. “I am honored to serve alongside so many dedicated leaders, teachers, and staff who put students first every day.”
A veteran educator and administrator, Dr. Wood previously served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal at Capshaw Elementary School. She has led as the PCSS elementary instructional supervisor since 2021, playing a key role in strengthening instructional practices, supporting school leaders, and elevating student success.
PCSS Director of Schools Corby King celebrated the announcement, saying, “This is a huge honor for our school system. Dr. Wood exemplifies what engaging, inspiring, and achieving looks like to our students, faculty, and staff. I can’t think of a better recipient of this award.”
Dr. Wood is deeply committed to building collaborative networks that support children and families. She serves on the Bright Start Tennessee steering committee, a multi-county initiative focused on developing high-quality early care and education systems through strong community partnerships. Through this work, she emphasizes the importance of family engagement beginning well before students enter formal schooling.
In addition to her leadership at PCSS, Dr. Wood is an active member of the Tennessee Literacy Council and serves on the Board of Directors for her local Child Advocacy Center. Her passion for advocating on behalf of children and families is evident in her service and leadership both within and beyond the school system.
Dr. Melissa Palk, the principal at Northeast Elementary, was also in attendance. Palk was a finalist for Principal of the Year. She was selected as the PCSS Principal of the Year, which put her in consideration for region and state accolades.
