from Corby King, Director of Schools

Corby King, Director of Schools

Good afternoon, PCSS families!

Happy Halloween! It has been fun seeing the students participating in the various dress-up days this week.

Another National Championship

Cookeville High senior Ciara Oldham has added another national championship to her speech and debate resume. After winning the National Championship in Impromptu Speaking at the National Speech and Debate Tournament this past summer, Ciara won the FFA National Championship for Extemporaneous Speaking this week at the FFA National Convention. Congratulations, Ciara! We are #PCSSProud of you!

Football Playoffs

The Upperman High football team has claimed the region championship for the third consecutive year. The Bees went undefeated in Region 4-4A and will host Signal Mountain next week in the first round of the TSSAA state playoffs. Cookeville High also secured a spot in the playoffs. The Cavs will be on the road next week. Congratulations to UHS and CHS for making the football postseason.

Running to State

Congratulations to the Cookeville High boys' cross country team, who qualified for the TSSAA Division I Class 3A State Tournament. CHS finished third in the Section 6-3A Championships, led by Levi Detwiler, who finished second out of 76 runners, which also included Cavaliers Aden Goode, Deacon Daniels, Ethan Cook, and Jacob Rivers. Cookeville Lady Cavs Camryn Maynor and Anna Sosebee also advanced to the girls' state championships as individuals after a good showing at the sectionals.

PCSS Connection

This week’s PCSS Connection Podcast includes an interview with PEP Executive Director Katelyn Steakley. Madden Gladding talks to Cookeville sophomore Sophia Warren in the Student Spotlight, and we check in with 5-12 Instructional Supervisor Bubba Winningham.
