Corby King, Director of Schools

Good afternoon, PCSS families!

I hope you have had a good week. I’ve enjoyed seeing all the honor roll students recognized in the paper.

Recognizing Our Veterans

Putnam County Schools proudly recognizes and honors all the brave men and women who have served our country. This week, our schools began holding special Veterans Day programs to show gratitude for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to protecting our freedoms. Burks, Monterey, Northeast, Baxter Primary, Prescott South Elementary, and Cornerstone had their programs this week. Algood Middle, Avery Trace, Cane Creek, Capshaw, Cookeville High, Jere Whitson, Park View, Prescott South Middle, Sycamore, Upperman High, and Upperman Middle will have their programs on Tuesday. We are thankful for the veterans in our community, among our staff, and in our families. Your service inspires us all!

Bees Move On

Congratulations to the Upperman Bees on posting a win in the first round of the TSSAA Class 4A High School Football state playoffs. The Bees buzzed Signal Mountain last night, 50-6 in Baxter. Upperman will host the winner of tonight’s matchup between Alcoa and Cherokee next Friday at 7 p.m.

Monterey FFA

During the Sixth General Session of the 98th National FFA Convention, Monterey FFA Members were recognized twice on stage at Lucas Oil Stadium. Colt Elrod placed 6th in the nation with his Agriscience Fair Project in Power, Structural, & Technical Systems - Div. 5. Monterey FFA also was recognized as a National Finalist in the Premier Chapter: Strengthening Agriculture Division, represented by Skyla Blalock & Heidy Mazariegos. These are the first-ever Monterey FFA Members to achieve these milestones. We are #PCSSProud of you!

Appreciating our School Psychologists

This week has been designated School Psychologists Week throughout the nation. Here in Putnam County, we celebrate our amazing school psychologists who play a vital role in supporting students’ academic success, emotional well-being, and mental health. Their dedication helps create safe, supportive learning environments where every student can thrive. Thank you to our school psychologists for all you do to help students learn, grow, and succeed!

PCSS Connection

This week’s PCSS Connection Podcast includes an interview with Upperman Middle School volleyball coach Kenzie Blake and PCSS Data and Testing Supervisor Jason Stickler, while Madden Gladding talks to CHS Student Council President Ella Brown in the Student Spotlight.
